The City of Santa Clarita continues to set a powerful example of community-driven graffiti removal and urban beautification. Most recently, the city hosted its 4th Annual Graffiti Removal Day, where volunteers partnered with Santa Clarita’s Graffiti Removal Team to help restore public spaces and remove vandalism across the community.
In addition to their volunteer events, Santa Clarita’s Graffiti Removal Team remains one of the most active and effective programs in California. In 2025, they have already performed: 14,196 tag removals and 97 beautification projects.
Since 2015, the team has also maintained a 99% 24-hour response rate, demonstrating their long-standing commitment to keeping neighborhoods clean, safe, and welcoming.
As part of the city's 2025 Strategic Plan, Santa Clarita continues to invest heavily in graffiti education, public outreach, and large-scale beautification projects, ensuring residents and volunteers are engaged in protecting shared spaces.
Santa Clarita’s model reinforces how coordinated community efforts, rapid response, and education programs can dramatically reduce graffiti vandalism and strengthen neighborhood pride.
Santa Clarita’s success is driven by a structured and highly responsive system. When graffiti is reported through the city’s hotline or website, requests are logged, tracked, and assigned to cleanup crews in real time.
Each crew is equipped with professional tools, including pressure washers, graffiti removal products, and containment systems. Crews document each job, including location, material type, removal method, and cost, using onboard systems that sync with a central database.
This data-driven approach not only improves efficiency but also supports law enforcement in identifying repeat offenders and calculating restitution costs.
Santa Clarita’s graffiti removal crews handle an average of 20–25 service requests per day, responding to approximately 1,000 to 1,300 monthly reports. Crews work five days a week, with additional service days to keep up with demand.
Graffiti removal methods vary based on surface type. For example:
A key part of Santa Clarita’s success is its strong community involvement. Volunteer groups such as Teens Against Graffiti (TAG), along with local schools, scout groups, and community organizations, regularly assist with cleanup efforts.
These programs not only expand cleanup capacity but also foster community pride and awareness about the impact of graffiti vandalism.
Santa Clarita’s graffiti removal initiative began in 1991 as a volunteer-led effort through the P.R.I.D.E. committee. As the city grew and graffiti incidents increased, the program evolved into a fully funded municipal operation in 2007.
Today, the program includes dedicated staff, specialized equipment, and a comprehensive tracking system, supported by partnerships with law enforcement and local agencies.
The city takes a proactive approach through its Graffiti Task Force, which brings together city officials, law enforcement, and utility companies to address graffiti vandalism from multiple angles.
Prevention strategies include:
This coordinated effort has resulted in significant enforcement success, with increased arrests and convictions tied to graffiti-related offenses.
Santa Clarita’s graffiti removal program demonstrates how rapid response, community involvement, and data-driven operations can significantly reduce graffiti vandalism.
By combining professional crews, engaged volunteers, and strong prevention strategies, the city has created a scalable model that other municipalities can replicate to improve public spaces and strengthen community pride.
