A "miracle" product is helping Niagara Falls get a grip on its graffiti problem, said Mayor Jim Diodati.
"This product is unbelievable. It takes graffiti off almost everywhere without damaging the paint underneath. It's almost a miracle product with how well it works," he said. "Some things are harder than others to remove, but we have removed about 90 percent of the graffiti across the city."
Diodati said municipal officials have been using the formula and wipes from World’s Best Graffiti Removal System to quickly remove markings from surfaces.
"It's made our jobs so much easier. We used to rely on steamers and a lot of elbow grease," he said. Niagara Falls officials report positive results since adopting these products across the city.
We used it all summer. There are a lot of products that claim to be the "world's best," but this one has worked really well for our crews.
— James Sticca, City Operations Director
In May, the city developed an action plan to address the increase in graffiti across Niagara Falls.
Diodati noted graffiti appearing on garbage cans, bus shelters, hydro transformers, overpasses, Bell and Canada Post boxes, benches, telephone poles, stop signs, wayfinding signage, and even trees.
"At one point, graffiti was out of control. Every major intersection and corner was being tagged, and it kept getting worse. We realized we had to take an aggressive approach," he said.
"We've gotten way ahead of it. Now we're focusing on the occasional missed spot, often in residential areas or off main roads. We take pride in our city and want it to remain clean, neat, and presentable."
Sticca added, "We saw how quickly it removed graffiti. Previously, removal took a lot of time and didn't always yield great results. During demonstrations, it took about 15 minutes and did not damage the surface or remove the finish from equipment like hydro transformers."
"What's different about this system is that the surface determines the product used. Porous surfaces like concrete require different solutions than smooth surfaces like playground equipment."
"We used it all summer. Many products claim to be the best, but this one consistently delivered strong results for our crews."
