Step-by-step video tutorial with Phoenix-based artist Jesse Perry.
In this tutorial, artist Jesse Perry walks us through his process for turning a utility box into public art.
Prep matters. The electrical box used in this project was already in good condition, so it only needed a quick wash to get started.
Once the box is clean and dry, Jesse tapes off city stickers, utility labels, and any areas that need to remain visible.
With everything masked, he applies multiple base coats of primer.
After the base is complete, Jesse transfers his sketch and begins painting.
Once finished, he seals the artwork using MuralShield to lock in color and protect against UV exposure.
For added protection, he applies two coats of World’s Best Graffiti Coating, allowing graffiti to be removed safely in the future.
Huge thanks to Jesse for trusting our products to help keep this piece bold, bright, and protected for years to come.
