Graffiti Problem Under Control with 'Miracle' Product
A "miracle" product is helping Niagara Falls get a grip on its graffiti problem, said Mayor Jim Diodati.
"This product is unbelievable- it takes the graffiti off almost everywhere without damaging the paint underneath. It's almost a miracle product with how well it works," he said. "Some things are harder than others to remove ... but we have removed about 90 per cent of the graffiti that's been in the city."
Diodati said municipal officials have been using the formula and wipes from World's Best Graffiti Removal System that removes markings from surfaces quickly.
"It's made our jobs so much easier. We used to have to use steamers and a lot of elbow grease," he said. Niagara Falls officials say they have noticed positive results since using a product to remove graffiti from property across the city.

We used it all summer. There's a lot of products that go by a name like, 'world's best' whatever, but this one has worked really well for our crews.
— James Sticca, City Operations Director
In May, the city developed an "action plan" to deal with increased graffiti across Niagara Falls.
Diodati said he has seen garbage cans, bus shelters, hydro transformers, overpasses, Bell and Canada Post Boxes, benches, telephone poles, stop and way-finding signs and even trees tagged with graffiti.
Diodati said at one point earlier this year, graffiti was "out of control. I'm talking every major intersection, all our corners would be tagged and it was getting worse and worse and we realized we had to take an aggressive approach," he said.

"We've gotten way ahead of it and now we're looking at the odd one that we missed because maybe it's in a residential neighbourhood, it's maybe not on an arterial roadway, but we're going after it. We're all proud of what a great city we live in, and we want to make sure that it's neat, clean and very presentable."
City operations director James Sticca said, "We saw how quickly it removed the graffiti. Usually when we do graffiti removal, it was a huge amount of time and we didn't always get a great result," he said. "With this product, during the demonstration, it was about 15 minutes to remove the graffiti and it didn't take the wear or the shine off the hydro transfomer."
"What's a little bit different about this product is the surface determines the product you use, so if it's a porous surface like concrete, for example, you use a different product than you would on a playground slide," he said.
"We used it all summer. There's a lot of products that kind of go by a name like, 'world's best' whatever, but this one has worked really well for our crews."
